Anesthesiology 2012 is October 12-17 in Washington, D.C. Participating FAER resident scholars must be able to attend the meeting through its entirety.

Participants in the FAER Resident Scholar program are required to:
- Be active ASA members (an application is available at asahq.org/joinASA)
- Register for the ASA annual meeting prior to July 15, 2012
- Attend the FAER Resident Scholar program reception and orientation
- Attend the following ASA annual meeting sessions:
- The opening meeting of the ASA House of Delegates (Sunday, October 14, 8-11 a.m.)*
- The Emery A. Rovenstine Memorial Lecture (Monday, October 15, 10:15-11:20 a.m.)
- The FAER Honorary Research Lecture (Monday, October 15, 2-3 p.m.)**
- Attend the FAER Resident Scholar program farewell reception (Tuesday, October 16, 6:30 p.m.)
- Complete and return the post-program evaluation form
We strongly suggest that participants attend the following sessions:
- The FAER Academy of Research Mentors workshop (Monday, October 15, 8-11 a.m.)
- The Celebration of Research (Monday, October 15, 12:30- 2 p.m.)
- The FAER panel session (Monday, October 15, 3-5 p.m.)***
Resident scholars attend the opening session of the ASA House of Delegates. Sitting together, they are recognized by the ASA president. This is an excellent opportunity for many to see firsthand the ASA’s political process in action.
**FAER Honorary Research Lecture
The FAER Honorary Research Lecture recognizes outstanding scholarship by an anesthesiologist in an effort to encourage young anesthesiologists to consider careers in research and teaching, which are crucial if anesthesiology is to maintain its reputation as a medical specialty continuously striving for excellence in patient care.

The FAER panel features prominent speakers from the anesthesia research community. Panel members illustrate the importance of research in anesthesiology, share their knowledge and insight of how to identify and facilitate research opportunities available to residents and convey how to apply this information to their practice and academic career.
