General Information
Anesthesiology 2012 – the American Society of Anesthesiologists annual meeting – is October 12-17 in Washington, D.C., at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. Information regarding the meeting, including the program schedule, hotel information, registration details and more can be found at asahq.org/annual-meeting.
The registration booklet (available in May) and the meeting program (available in August) also include detailed information.
Registration & Registration Fee Information
FAER resident scholars must register for Anesthesiology 2012. The registration website will be available in June via asahq.org/annual-meeting.
FAER encourages resident scholars to attend as many sessions as possible while at the ASA annual meeting. The resident scholar, or the department, will be responsible for the cost of special workshops or panels attended.
FAER provides each participating department with a $1,000 grant to cover the cost associated with sending a resident to the meeting. FAER does not reimburse the resident directly. It is up to the department to determine what expenses are covered.
FAER Events at the Annual Meeting
The schedule for FAER resident scholars is available on FAER.org. There are some mandatory events. The schedule will be updated as events are confirmed.
If you have a poster session scheduled at the same time as a FAER-required activity, contact Carol Demulling in the FAER office at 507-266-6866.
Travel Information & Hotel Accommodations
FAER resident scholars are responsible for arranging their own travel and hotel for the meeting. Hotel reservations for official conference hotels will be available after May 15 via asahq.org/annual-meeting.
Shuttle Service
ASA provides complimentary shuttle service between the convention center and the official conference hotels. The ASA annual meeting website and program book will have information on shuttle service.
Dress Code
Although there is no formal dress code for the meeting, standard daily dress is business casual.
Networking Opportunities
The annual meeting offers an abundance of networking opportunities with leaders in anesthesiology. Bring plenty of business cards.
Resident scholars are encouraged to stop by the FAER booth in the exhibit hall to meet FAER leadership and connect with others in the field.
Guest Policy
To meet industry standards regarding social events, guests (including spouses and significant others) are not invited to attend the FAER resident scholar orientation or the closing reception.
However, according to the ASA annual meeting website, “an individual accompanying a full registration attendee, and participating only in the social events receives complimentary registration. Complimentary spouse/guest registration includes guest name badge, access to the ANESTHESIOLOGY 2012 exhibition, Saturday opening session, one ticket to the Saturday evening opening reception.”
State Component Society Information
State caucuses meet on Saturday and Tuesday afternoons to discuss issues before the House of Delegates meetings. State ASA directors will have the locations and schedules for their meetings.
Reference committees have their hearings on Sunday afternoons, and they are open to all ASA members at the ASA annual meeting.
